Quest/Event Tricks of the Trade!

Have you ever wanted to make a talking item? Have you ever wanted to use a secret meeting place? Ever wanted a guardian to protect your cave? These are just of the things that creative individuals have come up with in order to make their events more realistic/impressive. Below I have begun to compile these so called "Tricks of the Trade," and they are available for your use/modification. The information compiled below is a work in progress and will never be finished as long as we have talented individuals who are always looking to find new ways to impress quest participants. Giving Speeches/Writing Books

Required: Should be Playing in Windowed Mode.
Optional: None.
Description:
1) Begin by making a paste macro -- Open up the ingame options, find the macro menu, setup a macro with the "paste" command.
2) Open up notepad or similar word processing program, open/type your message.
3) Highlight and copy the text you want to say/write. You can say about 70 characters, and can write about 500 characters.
4) For speaches simply: highlight, copy, switch windows, paste, hit enter, repeat.
NOTE: The font in books is different than that in notepad so you may need to tweak any ascii art.

Dead Containers

Required: Bone Container
Optional: Place to lock-down items, book, keys, etc.
Description: Use bone containers to place quest information like secret notes, keys, etc. If you want to prevent the container and/or items from being stolen, just lock them down in a building.

Add Extra RP Flavor to Items

Required: Book, backpack (or other container), the item itself.
Optional: None.
Description: A good way to create a more indepth description of an item is to place it in a backpack with a book describing it further. For example, "This jewel encrusted sword has the emblem of Nujel'm pressed into the hilt."

Go to the Monsters

Required: None.
Optional: None.
Description: Although we don't have the power to spawn monsters, you can achieve the same effect by travelling to a place that naturally has monsters. For example -- graveyards, dungeon, orc forts, the brigand camp, ophidian temple, etc.

Released Creatures (Guardians)

Required: A tamed creature.
Optional: None.
Description: Releasing a tamed creature such as a dragon can be a great way to create a boss monsters. They can also be named whatever you want, such as "a guardian". Two notes of caution though:
1) Released tamed creatures decay after a short time if they are not engaged.
2) Releasing tamed creatures in the middle of a crowd is not legal according to the rules.

Talking Items

Required: Transmitter comm crystal, receiver comm crystal.
Optional: Chest or other item that will talk.
Description: You can make talking items by hiding a communications crystal within a chest or behind a structure. This is a great way to make a taking gatekeeper.
NOTE: Comm crystals can be very fickle, be sure to test your system first.

Magic spell explosion

Required: 1 pentagram, 5 magic trapped pouches, 5 players who can hide.
Optional: None.
Description:
1) Have a player stand at each point of the pentagram.
2) Give each player a magic trapped pouch.
3) Have the players hide just before your quest group arrives at the location of the pentagram. Also, make sure that you have the group surround the pentagram no coser then 1 tile from it. That way you dont have people trying to reveal your helpers.
4) (the hardest step) Have your helpers open their trapped pouches AT THE SAME TIME. You may want to be in a party so that you can comunicate on what word they need open their pouches.

Secret Meeting Location

Required: None.
Optional: None.
Description: There are many buildings in Britannia that have basements perfect for secret meeting places.
1) Britain -- The Salty Dog Tavern
2) Vesper -- Tanners
3) Jhelom -- Bookmakers

Use NPC Houses

Required: None.
Optional: None.
Description: Many houses in the towns across the land are uninhabited and are perfect for your characters to use as part of a quest.

Nystul's Trammel Lab

Required: Teleport, rune to the outside.
Optional: Mage type furniture.
Description: You can re-create Nystul's labratory in Castle Britain (trammel) on the opposite side of the building. The lab will have no way out so you will need a special run to the outside of the castle.
Here is what you do:
As you near the front door of castle british, goto the guard station on the left side of the stairs. When you walk in you will see the second story wall dissapear. Walk back out till you get as far as you can go without the walls coming back up...Teleport to the second level. This does work cause I just did it lastweek for part of the event I am runing on my shard. Anyhow, once your there you can mark runes for the room.

Safe Dungeon Prison

Required: Orc Mask.
Optional: None.
Description: In the new orc dungeon there is a noble who is chained in a cell on the second level. If you have a green ork mask then you can easily get into this small jail cell. Once the door is closed, no orc can touch you so you can take your mask off. It makes for a great rescue mission.
